The Grand Rapids Red Project

Syringe Access Program Staff

February - August 2019 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

It was a welcoming environment, they were willing to teach you things and were excited about what they did (preventing overdose and HIV transmission among individuals who use injection drugs), flexible scheduling

What I wish was different

It would have been a little easier if it wasn't something where you had to be there at the same time every week, because I was also doing other things, but I also understood why they did it (consistency for the clients)

Intern

May - August 2019 • East Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

I loved the community atmosphere and the mission.

What I wish was different

Better communication between coworkers. They communicated well with me but not with each other so I was often receiving conflicting feedback.

Advice

You have to be radically open minded and passionate about loving and respecting everyone no matter their past or current affairs.
