Social Media and Marketing Student Assistant - Job Description
The Social Media and Marketing Student Assistant supports the Student Wellness Center (SWC) and helps expand the Student Wellness Center’s outreach through social media and marketing efforts. This position selects appropriate communication channels for advertising and placement of our program efforts, including maintaining and growing our following on our social media accounts. This position reports to the Health Communication Specialist.
Responsibilities
- Help to conceptualize and create eye-catching materials and videos to effectively market and promote Student Wellness Center events, programs, and services
- Expand outreach of department to wider student audience
- Collaborate to conceptualize, develop, and deliver effective marketing campaigns
- Manage the promotion of SWC programs, services, and events to diverse campus audiences; deliver online and hard copy materials via prioritized distribution channels
- Collaborate to conceptualize and develop strategic marketing plan, including branding for the department
- Provide consultation and feedback to Student Wellness Center staff and student assistants
- Occasional support for Wellness Lounge services or Student Wellness Center outreach
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Be willing to work with project management tools (i.e. Trello, Google Workspace/G Suite)
- Communicate and meet regularly with supervisor
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong portfolio demonstrating knowledge of marketing theory and principles
- Ability to prioritize and manage tasks independently to complete projects by established deadlines
- Familiarity with marketing channels available at SJSU
- Expertise using social media and other digital media as a marketing tool (e.g. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, blogs, videos, etc.)
- History working effectively with printers and vendors to achieve project outcome goals
- Understanding and appreciation of the rich diversity of cultures and identities that help to define SJSU; ability to use inclusive language and integrate social justice practices into daily work
- Ability to learn and adhere to laws and regulations unique to a health environment related to confidentiality (HIPAA, Title IX, etc.)
- Must be enrolled in at least six units and be in good academic (minimum GPA is 2.75) and judicial standing with SJSU
- Eligible and committed to working for the full 2025-2026 academic year
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of graphic design and key design software preferred (i.e. Canva, Adobe Suite including: Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Publisher, etc.)
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a strong customer service orientation
- Ability to use analytics to assess and evaluate impact
- Ability to work as part of a cohesive team
