Intern Application Engineer

Flowserve is offering a challenging, hands-on paid internship for a local student in mechanical engineering. The position will be part-time starting in the Fall term. The On-Site Application Engineer Intern will be working with our engineers stationed at our customers’ refineries in Richmond, CA, and Martinez, CA, and at our Quick Response Center in Benicia, CA. The engineers provide immediate technical expertise regarding design, application, installation and operation of our mechanical pumps, seals and supporting equipment. With the On-Site Application Engineer, the intern will:
  • Monitor and evaluate the status of the customer's rotating equipment
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and provide recommendations
  • Complete projects requiring both hands-on and mathematical analyses resulting in independent evaluation, such as detailed failure analysis reports, product performance reports, recommendations for upgrades, repair/buy decisions, etc.
  • Assist in discussions regarding new equipment for specific industrial applications
  • Learn about the standardized installation and operation of Flowserve products.
  • Assist in maintaining a parts inventory on site, updating inventory records, and keeping inventory right-sized
  • Maintain equipment data in engineering systems; process engineering change notices; submit corrective action reports; and maintain current, accurate, and organized files
 
Position Requirements:
  • Mechanical Engineering degree in progress required, preferable a Junior or Senior in Fall 2019. Must be enrolled at a college within commuting distance (50 miles) of the job site(s).
  • Available to work 15-20 hours per week during the school year, during business hours. 
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must have transportation to report to various local sites
  • Strong mechanical interest and aptitude
  • Self-directed and organized with a strong work ethic
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills to resolve problems and to develop customer relationships
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required; CAD Mechanical required; ability to read blueprints and drawings is required
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders to access equipment in operation. Position requires frequent lifting of parts up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to wear PPE as required at sites, such as safety shoes and respirators.
