Steelcase

Field Sales Intern

May - August 2023 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I worked on real projects, I didn't feel like an intern I was actually a team member, my leaders set me up for success and truly cared about me.

What I wish was different

I was the only intern in the Boston location which was difficult at first, but in the end, I enjoyed that aspect because I had so many 1:1 mentoring opportunities.

Advice

Apply! Steelcase treated me very well, the company culture is welcoming and supportive. I now have a job lined up starting in the Fall after my senior year.

Field sales intern

May - August 2023 • Raleigh, NC

What I liked

I loved every part of my internship. My mentors were super kind and easy to get a long with. My intern cohort was inclusive and really cool. I was able to travel to HQ for a week, which was an AMAZING experience (it was also drop dead gorgeous).

What I wish was different

I wish I had interned in a different city than my home town. I had the option to but chose not to. I wish somebody had reached out and asked why/ explained that I would have received a housing stipend to help pay for rent and transportation.

Advice

Always try to network and always welcome new opportunities/challenges! Talking with others in my region was such a good learning experience. I was able to learn more about the company, their career path, and also learn about all the moving parts and roles to make a successful team!

IT Intern

May - August 2021 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

Loved how well rounded the whole internship process was, as events were organized for interns that exposed them to different parts of the company and helped them understand more about the organization in the short time you are there for. The IT team I was part of was a very friendly, resourceful, and helpful bunch that was core to my learning experience at this internship.

What I wish was different

I wish the project that was given to me was a bit more involved with the rest of the team I was part of.

Advice

Be prepared to do a lot, learn a lot, and meet a lot of new people. Don't be afraid to ask anything and step out of your comfort zone to get to know your coworkers and interns.

IT Intern

May - August 2021 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

Steelcase was an amazing place to work. The intern program was very thoroughly organized, gave each and every intern the opportunity to network with all sorts of new individuals, and create a social and productive atmosphere among the intern class. It was always easy to ask for help from everyone, set up coffee chats to learn more about an individual of a different discipline, be challenged with meaningful work, and gain mentorship. I recommend this intern program to everyone that is able.

What I wish was different

Due to coming off of a virtual school year with covid and my in-person internship still up for debate on whether it will be transitioned to virtual for the summer, this is a minor gripe but I wish the interns were set up quicker with their technology to hit the ground running on day 1, rather than waiting in some cases 2-3 weeks before you could start working on your projects.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions and network with different departments. You are encouraged by everyone you meet to go outside your organization and explore the different aspects of Steelcase from marketing, to product development, and more. There is so much to learn, and so many ways to do it. So make sure you take the extra step, and don't be afraid to be curious.

Quality Intern

May - August 2020 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

Everyone is very friendly, willing to help out others (including interns) and it is a great place to broaden your skillset and get to know others.

What I wish was different

Fully in person experience, COVID made it so I had to work most of my days remotely. If it was any other year I would have had a lot more chances to interact with coworkers.

Advice

Network with as many people as you can, those on your team, other interns or entry level individuals, and leadership. The internship program helps with this but try to reach out on your own to network with more people in fields or positions you are interested in.

The training was top notch, I always had someone to help me when I had questions and they put on a lot of events for the interns like getting the tour of the private hangar and jet.
